This is quite possibly the most unusual style of writing I've experienced. The entire short story, TIN CAN SERENADE, is told though the eyes of two (apparent) children, in written form (notes, letters) passed through a tin can on a rope (pulley system) bridging a river chasm. The story is made up and told by these notes passed back and forth as a father with a son on one side of the river and a mother with a daughter on the other side are apparently living in the homes they lived in long ago. I won't say more in the interest of avoiding spoilers. My personal preference is romances told by the main characters, not their children. But this was sweet. Tender. And it worked. As the author explains at the end of the book, she wrote it in response to asking her fans and readers about their most cherished holiday family traditions. The author, Amanda Dykes, incorporated her fans' traditions into the story as a tribute to them.
Sensuality level: sweet, clean

Tin Can Serenade Inspirational Victorian Christmas Short Story edition by Amanda Dykes Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews
Loved this sweet and short novella about two families and the way that love has connected them throughout the years. Some very fun and unique plot twists!
Short, sweet romance told from a unique perspective. Having been forewarned that this was short and employed an unusual narrative approach, I thoroughly enjoyed this story.
Sorry to reveal that this is a truly bizarre, weird, and jumbled mess of a book. I abandoned it several pages in because it made no sense.
This was the sweetest story I have read in a long time. It touched my heart. I highly recommend this story and will be checking out more offerings from this fine author!
I absolutely LOVED this little story. Endearing and heartwarming, it's written in such a sweet way with the exchanging of notes between two children. What Amanda Dykes does so well is drop little hints to the reader - details that enrich the tale - but she does it in such a subtle, artful way, that it's woven seamlessly into the conversation in a way that 's not only darling, but often times, laugh out loud. This short story was a delight to read and will make a wonderful staple to any families Christmas story collection! Heartwarming through and through!
A sweet short story about a couple and their children passing notes in a tin can across a river. Turns out they were sweethearts before going their separate ways. Life is giving them a second chance with that same tin can as the purveyor of their reacquaintence. A sweet Christmas story.
Short and oh so sweet. What a delightful little tale, perfect to read from start to finish with a cup of tea on a cold winter's night. The storytelling technique of notes between two children was clever and beautifully executed. A refreshing and fulfilling story told through unique voices. I loved it--and even more so when I read the author's note at the end, explaining how she wove in some of her readers' Christmas memories into the story. Such a charming tribute to love, Christmas, God, and the readers this author clearly cares dearly about!
