One of my favorites in the series. Sunshine Phillips, sister to Madeline who married Patrick Macleod, has become the honorary Witch of the Macleod Clan in current times 2006. Meanwhile in 1375, Robert Francis Cameron, Laird of the neighboring Cameron Clan is rushing to get the Macleod Witch to attempt to save his brother's life. Unknowingly reaching through a portal he pulls Sunshine into his times. This starts a very interesting time travel that folds back and is quite brilliant, as the straightforward beginning gets a very different twist. Throughout it all threads a very touching romance, although I found Sunshine's habitual desire to run off somewhat tiresome after a while. Still this is quite a favorite and Sunshine rises to the occasion eventually, she's actually a sweet girl.

I really love this author. I have read and even re-read everything she has written. Recently, I re-read Garden in the Rain and I couldn't recall reading the follow up book about Sunshine. (I was confident that there would be a book with that character, as Garden seemed to be setting the stage for her.) So, I purchased With Every Breath for my . Oh my.
Now I know why I didn't remember this book...I could barely make myself get through the darn thing. I had to skim through large sections as they were seriously repetitive and completely boring. I can hardly believe that the same person wrote this!
Do yourself a favor and take a pass on this one. I wish I had. I WON'T forget again!!
With every story of the Macleod family and friends I get drawn into a greater love for Scotland, I am not rethinking my youthful choice of countries to live in........... Love it cannot get enough. Bring on more, and then show me where I can find my own fairy ring. I keep buying her novels even after I tell myself to stop. I can't I am addicted to her books. Great escape from life as a soldier in Afghanistan.
I love the fact that there is so many twists and turns in the story. I also love the fact that the person who came forward really caused problems. There are hints of so many other stories that I can read, and I'm really looking forward to them. I still get lost over who did what, when and in what order. I wish I could begin again start from the very beginning and go through them one after the other, chronologically actually. Beautifully written and detailed.
I love the simple and discreet way romance is written by Ms. Kurland. Nothing vulgar. I just love her style. She brings back and develops previous characters and ties them together beautifully.
I love Lynn Kurland's time travel books, and this is a good one. All of them are good some of them are wonderful, but I never miss one when they come out. I like the way they carry on in families and we get to visit older loved characters.

Sunshine Phillips is the sister of Madalyn who married Patrick in A GARDEN IN THE RAIN. She has been living in the MacLeod witch's cottage for the last few months. Moraig who was the last witch died and left the cottage to Sunny. Sunny had been studying with her for a while. She is trained as a medical doctor but is now training in the use of herbs to heal.

Robert Francis Cameron mac Cameron is laird of the Cameron clan in the 14th century. During a fight his brothers are injured, one killed and one stabbed. He immediately sets off to find the MacLead witch and bring her home to see to his brother. He stumbles thru a time spot at Moraig's door and pulls Sunny into his time.

There is much infighting in the clan and with the death of his brothers Cam is loosing their trust and confidence. When he chooses to protect a witch the clan turns against him and her. He protects her and finds a tenderness swelling up in his heart for this beautiful woman. Sunny finds herself deeply drawn to Cam and finally tells him that she is from the future.

His brother's wife, Gilly and Giric his cousin, turn traitor and decide to kill him. Fighting their way out of the castle, Cam and Sunny race to Moraig's house hoping to find the way back to the future. Sunny rushes in but Cam is stabbed in the back and both are hit with rocks in the head. When she comes to Cam in not to be found, although she is back in her time. Only two week have passed but her life has been changed.

I love these books with their strong, brash, yet gentle heros, and the stories which prove that love can conquor time. Do not miss this one and be sure to get the next one. It will be Zachary's story.
I'm not sure what is going on with the more recent Kurland offerings. This book, like Garden In The Rain, is full of typos and inaccurate grammatical usage of the word "calvary" instead of the proper usage of "cavalry"...as in to the rescue! An award-winning author should at least attempt to use correct grammar. Also the use if the word "quiet" in place of the proper word "quite" has been noted in several of her most recent novels.

As for the plot, it's a bit more ingenuous than her usual time-travel fare, and therefore makes for a good read. The last two chapters seem to drag on and were far too wordy; much more than necessary. This novel just isn't up to the excellent standards of "Another Chance To Dream" or "This Is All I Ask.". Maybe it's time for Ms. Kurland to dispense with the time travel and stick to historicals or straight contemporaries.
I just love the way Lynn writes. The characters are well developed. The antagonist is always someone you know and don't like. I like the way she brings the Scottish country side to life. I have this series in paper back and now am putting them on my kindle! Well worth the read!
